The University wishes to see all new staff provided with appropriate induction and orientation to the organisation and to their new role. This is both a central responsibility and the responsibility of the school in which the new staff members works.

New staff may commence work at any time in the year and an online facility provides an easily accessible framework to guide induction. Face-to-face interaction is crucial to introduce staff to their new environment so online material alone is insufficient. However, an online framework provides an effective platform to co-ordinate the process. The site provides guidance to: - supervisors in preparing for and conducting induction including samples of effective induction programmes from various areas of the university to seed ideas about how to develop local induction programmes
- new starters by directing them to information and clarifying expectations
- peers/mentors about their role and additional guidance
- new international staff members.
